Now that the music industry has declared the compact disc dead and buried, we at Timechange are going fully in on CD’s.  We’re kind of hard headed that way.

Also, logical we think.  Let’s face it. Vinyl is expensive for short runs and with most of our releases, we don’t have huge sales expectations.  Rather than chase unlikely break-even points, we’ll be doing short run CD’s this winter to showcase some close-to-our-heart Indiana recordings from the old days:

The Future.  Ed Johnson-Ott and his band The Future released two albums in the early 1980’s, one on vinyl and one on cassette.  Ed also released a solo LP earlier called “Potential Collector’s Item”.  We’re compiling a nice retrospective of Ed’s work.

Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Prior to the Last Four Digits, Dave Fulton and Steve Grigdesby were in a band called The Joint Chiefs of Staff who in 1978-79 were one of the earliest punk/new wave bands in Indiana.  No recordings were released at the time, but some very fine recordings exist.  Two tracks were featured on Timechange’s “Crazy Al’s Years” compilation and we can’t wait to get this one together.

Observers Observing Observables.  Fulton and key whiz Brad “Mr. Science” Garton of Dow Jones and the Industrials found common ground as their bands often performed together. They pooled their creativity at Zounds Studio in West Lafayette, recording all sorts of Residents-inspired electronic weirdness that resulted in a Hardly Music EP in 1981.  The four tracks released then are but a drop in the bucket; now you will get a full bucket, extra crispy style.

Amoebas in Chaos.  Bloomington artsy/trash new wave band that released an LP on Hardly Music in 1982 after moving to Boston and breaking up.  The CD will include the LP plus studio outtakes, live recordings, maybe even live tracks from the antecedent band Premature Babies.  Yeah, Rick was a band member in both incarnations.

More.  There will be more than this and a couple of them will be viable enough for vinyl, but we don’t have details worked out and so can’t announce them yet.  Stay tuned.
